Seconds count when you or a loved one is experiencing a stroke. It’s vital to receive stroke treatment as quickly as possible.

Our elite stroke team at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital provides prompt access to care with specialty expertise and written care protocols to provide personalized attention for patients. A stroke can occur because of a blocked blood vessel in the brain. When it does, our team is ready to act quickly, treating eligible patients with tPA (the clot-busting medicine) to open up the blockage.

HSHS St. Vincent Hospital is the area’s first Certified Primary Care Stroke Center and the leader in stroke care. As a Joint Commission stroke center, our specially trained team exceeds quality measures for stroke, including average door-to-stroke treatment times of less than 60 minutes. Patients affected by stroke, seizure or other acute needs are supported by Eagle III emergency air transportation—allowing us to stabilize and treat them as soon as possible.

An accredited EEG lab is just one of the many features of our comprehensive neurodiagnostic services. In addition, we are a referral center for hemorrhagic and complex stroke patients. Intervention capability is coming to HSHS St. Vincent Hospital in 2017. It will provide advanced treatment of stroke, including thrombectomy and intra-arterial reperfusion therapy.
